Phnom Penh: Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, said optimistically that the national economic growth this year would be around 3 percent.
At the inauguration ceremony of Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh Hotel here this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the national income before the COVID-19 outbreak is about US$700 million per month, but the figure dropped to some US$400 million during the pandemic. However, after the resumption of social and economic activities, the state’s income seems to be on positive trend.
“I think our economic growth will be around 2.9 percent, 3 percent or more than 3 percent, I could say around 3 percent,” he said.
“In the state budget law, this year’s economic growth has been forecasted at 2.4 percent, but with the positive trend at the end of 2021, our economic growth would be around 3 percent,“ he underlined.
Samdech stated that this increase is due to the increase in domestic demand, resulting in an increase in imports, the customs revenue has increased.
Regarding the impact of Covid 19, Samdech said that the real impact is on tourism, while industry and agriculture are not affected. Currently, the factories are working hard all night to meet the demand for orders on time.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen encouraged all citizens and the private sector to work with the government to enhance our national economy, as tax and customs income started growing.
