Mondulkiri: The Mondulkiri airport project, scheduled for early 2022, has been postponed indefinitely, which is slowly affecting the land sector in this province.
Mr. Meak Rithy Chey, president of Century 21 Zillion Holding in Mondulkiri, said that before the project was postponed, many local investors rushed to Mondulkiri to seek land for sale and development in the future.
“But when the project was postponed, the land sector in Mondulkiri province was also beginning to be gradually affected,” he said.
“Investors who used to look for land in Mondulkiri have gradually retreated, and the project they have announced will begin development in early 2022, but price of land has not dropped significantly, only little bit,” he said.
He added that most of land and real estate investment in Mondulkiri is mostly invested by local investors, with no foreign investors yet. Most of the investment projects in Mondulkiri are also types of projects such as private homestay and resorts.
Mr. Chrek Soknim, President of Cambodian Valuers and Estate Agents Association, said that Mondulkiri is a potential natural resort province. Therefore, the province will be developed into resorts and sectors supporting tourism services such as hotels, guesthouses, and restaurants.
“Foreign investors may come to Mondulkiri in the future to seek their investment in different sectors while Cambodian government has also built more convenient roads from Phnom Penh and other provinces to Mondulkiri,” he said.
Mr. Sin Chanserivutha, Spokesman and Secretary of State for Civil Aviation, confirmed Mondulkiri Airport has been delayed in development due to Covid-19 issue and that Chinese experts have not been able to assess the development of the project yet.
“But Cambodia’s other international airport projects under construction are still going smoothly, for example, the Techo International Airport Project, new Siem Reap International Airport Project, and so on,” he said.
